Recipe Tips

  1. Don’t overcook the chicken-There is a common misconception that chicken cannot be overcooked in a slow cooker, and it’s often thought that since a crockpot doesn’t burn food, it won’t overcook it either. However, cooking chicken at a constant temperature for too long can still result in tough and chewy meat. To avoid this, it is recommended to switch the crockpot to a warm setting once the chicken has reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees. This will help to maintain the quality of the meat until it is ready to be served.
  2. Shred with two forks– Once the chicken is ready, you should be able to easily shred it into the sauce with two forks. It will be juicy and tender, soaking in all the juices and BBQ sauce for a delicious meal. Alternately, you can use
  3. Serve in a variety of ways– Get creative with serving options! Try as a pulled BBQ chicken sandwiches, tacos, wraps, salads, or as a delicious topping for a baked potato.

Recipe Short Cuts

If you need to make this recipe, but are extra short on time, here are a few ideas that can help make this recipe even faster!

  • Use Frozen Chicken-If you’re in a hurry, you can use frozen chicken directly in the slow cooker. Just add some extra cooking time.
  • Cook on High– If you’re short on time, cook the chicken on high heat in the slow cooker for a faster result (around 2-3 hours).
  • Instant Pot Method –If you don’t have a slow cooker, you can use the Instant Pot on the pressure cook setting for faster results. It takes only around 10-15 minutes of cooking time.

Recipe Variations

If you love this recipe as much as we do and want some quick ways to change it up for variety, these little tips will do the trick!

  • BBQ Pineapple Crockpot Chicken– Keep the same recipe but add in a can of crushed pineapples. It adds a delicious fruity flavor and pairs perfectly with the BBQ sauce.
  • Korean BBQ Crockpot Chicken–Swap for a Korean BBQ sauce and leave out the ranch for another flavor variety! Then serve with an Asain coleslaw on a sesame seed bun.
  • Shredded Chicken Sliders– You can’t go wrong with this easy slow cooker BBQ chicken recipe! It’s perfect for adding to Hawaiian rolls and topped with a mouth-watering savory glaze. Baked in the oven with melted cheese, it’s an irresistible combination.
