What’s In A Dirt Cup?

The great thing about this recipe is that it is uses simple ingredients that everyone loves. You start with a chocolate pudding base and add a whipped topping then add crushed Oreo’s with the filling removed and garnish with your favorite gummy worms.

I have always thought that dirt cups were the funnest things! They are perfect for a kid’s birthday party, but can be changed up for just about any occasion. Some of my favorite toppings to add to Oreo dirt cups are:

  • Gummies: Gummy bears, Gummy worms, Gummy fruit, Gummy Sharks, Gummy frogs
  • Crackers: Teddy grams, Animal cookies, Pretzels
  • Candy: M&M’s, Mini candy bars, or any of your favorite candy

Fun Themes For Oreo Dirt Cups

Dirt cups with pudding are the perfect canvas for just about any holiday or party. Here are a list of some of my favorite theme ideas.

  • Halloween: Cut Milano cookies in half and add saying on them like R.I.P. to make them look like a grave stone. Then and fun elements like candies that look like pumpkins or plastic spiders.
  • Easter: Use vanilla pudding and add 2-3 fun Easter colors and layer them in a cup. Then top with a Peep candy bunny and place candy robin eggs around the bunny.
  • Dinosaur: I found cute mini dinosaurs and trees at the dollar store. Not only do your kids get a treat, but they get a toy as well.

How Far In Advance Can You Make Them?

That great thing about this recipe is that it is basically just pudding. You can pre-make these 2-3 days in advance and just store them in the fridge until you are ready to serve them to your guests. If you are going to keep them in the fridge longer then 24 hours put the Oreo topping on before serving so it does not get soggy.
