An email address is required to use most online services and apps. If you aren't comfortable handing out your primary address or want to sort your small business queries in Google Workspace, create a Gmail alias. It lets you receive emails anywhere, from a handy Android tablet to your desktop PC. We show you how to set up and create a Gmail alias for permanent and temporary use with your personal or Google Workspace email.
The option to create a Gmail email alias is only available on the desktop version of Gmail. Use a PC to follow the steps discussed in this article.
What is a Gmail alias or alternate email, and why should you use it?
When managing multiple email accounts, you typically don't want to sign in to each account separately. Having all your emails forwarded to one place makes them more manageable. You will usually have one primary email, and the rest serve as secondary emails, known as aliases.
Why should you create an alias? Considering how the internet works, you'll give your email address to many websites. Whether it's for job applications or update alerts on a product restock, you have to keep your eyes on your email. You can deal with this issue by creating multiple emails or redirecting your messages using filters with temporary aliases.

How to create a permanent Gmail alias
Before proceeding, you must have an alternative email address prepared. The selected email address can be from another domain, such as Yahoo or Outlook. In this example, we use a second Gmail address.
Log in to Gmail and navigate to Settings.
Click See all settings.
Select the Accounts and Import tab.
Click Add another email address.
Fill in the Name and Email address fields.
Ensure the Treat as an alias box has a blue checkmark.
Select Next Step > Send Verification.
Log in to your selected alternative email address.
Open the link from the confirmation email. Alternatively, enter the confirmation code on the Add another email address you own window.
Change the address connected to the from and reply-tofields to keep your primary email address private. To do this, navigate to your settings, click Accounts and Import > Send mail as > edit info.
Changing the default to your alias address selects that email address as the labeled sender when composing a message. After you've specified the reply-to email address with the alias email from the editinfo option, the listed address defaults to the alias email in the reply field. Otherwise, you can manually edit the reply field while drafting the reply message.
If you use multiple aliases in the same email account, select Reply from the same address the message was sent to from the Accounts and Import tab.
How to make a temporary Gmail alias
When your inbox explodes with news, promotions, and marketing materials, it might be time to make temporary Gmail aliases. These aliases allow and create filters. You can designate a folder for promotions and another for news to keep the email traffic under control. To get started, read below.

You can make as many temporary Gmail aliases as you want for filtering. Use the same username and place a label after the plus sign. See the example below.

Keeping your Gmail spam-free
Creating Gmail aliases prevents your inbox from going out of control. Still, the volume of messages doesn't necessarily change. What happens if spam goes unchecked and sneaks into your main folders? Consider blocking unwanted email addresses within Gmail so that you can prioritize those essential emails. You can also create labels in Gmail for better organization.
To open the user settings page, click a user's name. If you need help with finding the user in the list, go to Find a user account. On the left, under the user's name, click Add Alternate Emails. Click Alternate email and enter a name for the alias (the part of the address before the @ sign).

All you have to do is add a "+" symbol and any word or combination of characters after your username and before the "@" symbol. Gmail will deliver messages sent to each variation in your main inbox. It's like having a bunch of virtual doors leading to the same room.
You can add up to 30 email aliases for each user at no extra cost. Users must continue to sign in to their Google Workspace account with their primary address, not their email alias.
Using multiple Gmail accounts is an effective way to keep messages organized for different businesses and projects, but is there a limit? Luckily, there's no limit to the number of Gmail accounts you can have.
Luckily, a little-known Gmail trick offers a practical solution. By simply adding a plus sign (“+”) and any combination of words or numbers after their standard email address, users can create multiple unique addresses that all funnel back to the same inbox.
How does Google Magic determine which Gmail emails are important? Basically, Gmail will rate your email as important according to criterias like: If you usually open the emails of this sender, if you respond etc. If you use to archive emails without reading them, they will for sure classified as not important.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to create a sub-Gmail account from the same Gmail account. However, you can create a new Gmail account and link it to your existing account. To do this, go to the Google Accounts page and click on the “Create Account” button.
What is Gmailify? Gmailify allows Gmail users to send and receive emails from the internet. This is an alternative to Outlook, Thunderbird, or Apple Mail which may not work with your browser. Customers who are frustrated with their current mail client's limitations will be able to explore new possibilities.
Example: If you have jane@coolexample.com as your primary email account and you create the alias jobs@coolexample.com, all emails sent to jobs@ goes into your jane@ inbox. When you reply to mail sent to jobs@, it will automatically use your alias jobs@ so that the recipient never sees jane@.
Click the username you want to add the alias to. Under the user's name, click Add alternate emails.Click Alternate email, and type a name for the alias (the part of the address before the @ sign). If you have multiple domains you want to add aliases for, choose them as appropriate under the Domain drop-down.
Gmail allows you to create multiple email addresses for the same Google account. You can use the multiple inbox feature of Gmail to manage your email. This function allows you multiple email addresses in your account.
Here's how it works: In Gmail, you can add a “+” symbol and any word you want to the end of your email address, and it will still reach your inbox. For example, if your email address is john@gmail.com, you can use john+shopping@gmail.com, john+work@gmail.com, or john+anythingyouwant@gmail.com.
