Garlic Parmesan Baked Steak Fries – so easy, ready in about 30 minutes. The perfect side dish to all your burgers, hot dogs & backyard BBQ fun. Delicious!

We love steak fries. How about you? We used to order them as often as we could when we would dine out. But most times when we would go, the staff claimed they had steak fries & when the plate actually arrived, they are anything but.

Sigh….. So we did what we normally do- learned to make our own. It’s super easy to do & ready in just about 30 minutes. So that means they are the perfect dish to whip up while the burgers are grilling. These are one of our family’s favorite things to make. So simple & YUMMY too!

So, what’s the difference between a french fry & a steak fry you might ask. Well, a traditional french fry is thinner & usually doesn’t have the skins left on. Steak fries, however, are a thicker cut & have that delicious skin left on there not only for added nutrients but it adds depth & crispness that you can’t find with other fries.

If you are a potato lover of any sort, I would care to venture that steak fries are more your speed than a traditional fry. You get so much more of that great potato flavor, all salty & seasoned to perfection. With these, we added granulated cheese, which was absolutely delectable.

Oven Baked Steak Fries

Here are some commonly asked questions

Should I soak the potatoes in cold water first?

I have tried it both ways and I don’t have a preference for this recipe because of the shape of the fries.

If you choose to do so, place them in a large bowl of ice water for 30 minutes before proceeding. You will need to pat them dry before adding the oil and seasonings.

Why would I want to soak the potatoes in cold water first?

Soaking the potatoes first helps to leach out a lot of the starch and will keep them from sticking together and helps with getting them nice and crispy. It also helps to keep them from browning too much during the mixing process before baking.

How many can this serve?

Using 6-7 potatoes you assume that people will eat about 1 potato in fries. So I would say 6-7 servings total for this recipe. If you are not feeding adults, and have smaller appetites, this recipe will go a lot farther.

Can this recipe be doubled?

You can, and we do it often. If you have a full sheet baking tray you might be able to get a double batch onto that. I usually do TWO -3/4 sheet pans for doubling this recipe.

HOW DO YOU MAKE Garlic Parmesan Baked Steak Fries?

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with foil & spray lightly with cooking spray.
  3. Toss all of the ingredients together in a large bowl.
  4. Spread out coated potatoes on the prepared baking sheet. Bake 15 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven & turn fries over & return to oven for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until brown & crispy on the outside.
  6. Remove & sprinkle with additional salt if desired – serve immediately.

What is the best way to store leftover steak fries?

I like to place them in an airtight container or zip-top bag and refrigerate until ready to enjoy again. Use them within 3 days. To reheat, they will be best if you place them in the oven or toaster oven at 400 degrees for several minutes, until hot. This way they won’t get too soggy.

To make Garlic Parmesan Baked Steak Fries you will need…

  • russet potatoes
  • olive oil

These are fantastic! We let them go about 10 minutes longer just to be sure they were crispy and our family of five (three teens) devoured them! We’ve tried other homemade fry recipes in the past and they were never good, for some reason decided to try these ones. New fav potato recipe- making them for second time in three weeks!

Yes – those will work. Just bake to the package directions since they will be frozen. You might need to let them thaw just a bit to get the seasonings to stick. Then adjust the baking time accordingly since they won’t be fully frozen.
