Does a wet spot stall colonization? #3910757 - 03/13/05 08:44 AM (19 years, 1 month ago) |
Hi, Ive got 7 jars of argentinian on the way. One has a wet spot in it, or t least I think its one: I so it a few days ago, and though the mycelium might eat it, and thus kill the bacteria. This hasnt been the case. Now, a few days later, the growth of the jar has somehow stalled. It looks as if the mycelium is "dead" in lots of the grains. Im saying this, as often the grains do not cluster together, but seem to be colonized seperately. I still have mycelium clusters, but those arent growing any bigger either. Thanks, Jazz
Now, just out of interest: Is it possible that the bacteria are inside the whole jar, even though Ive only ot one wet spot? - The grain itself is fine and moist. (Normally saturated, not like said in the Bacillus description: Extremely Wet)
P.S: The picture is crap, cause I made it with my mobile phone...

In my experience no, i have never seen mycelium take over wet spot. And that's is wet spot.

Yes mycellium wont colonize wetspot. Normally the mycellium will start fluffing up and get a little yellow when it reaches an area with bactera. With cakes i have successfully birthed and fruited cakes that had uncolonized spots that had wetspot. JUst birth and dunk them seperate.

Actually some strains are strong enough to do it, but it takes forever. Even if it does colonize it finally, transfering it to a casing isn't a good idea. The fruiting will be poor at best.

wetspot stalls colonisation I had it ONCE in my wbs. MF
wetspot smells hell (sour)
wetspot infected jars should be tossed
wetspot can be prevented by a soak and decent PC @ 15psi for 90 minutes

sorry to jack this post but you mentioned the mycellium eating the contam. I have a jar of tasies that is 80% colonized and I just noticed some yellow sufur contam and some redstuff in the uncolonized area. will the mycelium eat that and be alright?

Thanks JazzMatazz ;P The jar I had I did not toss it either cause I was curious to the development. MF
But I took it away from the other jars, and I had it in low (70F and lodwer) temperatures. Not much happened and I ended up tossing in the garden...
